Information and rules for the competition

Tillicoultry, Coalsnaughton & Devonside Community Council – Garden Competition 2022
 
Please note that all entries must be received by no later than Sunday 7 August at 12noon.
 
Judging will take place on Saturday 13 and Sunday 14 August.  Times for when judging will take place are to be confirmed but you will be informed in advance.
 
You may only enter one of the following categories:
  • Best Cottage Garden
  • Best Tub or Container
  • Best Hanging Basket or Window Box
  • Best under-16 year old’s Garden
The scoring criteria which the judges will use to determine the best example in each category is below:

1. Best Cottage Garden
(Each of the following will be awarded between 1 and 10 points)
  • Variety of perennials/annuals
  • Pollinator friendly
  • Range of fruit and/or veg
  • Water feature
  • Bird feeder/bee hotel/insect house/nest box/wood pile
  • Overall impression
2. Best Tub or Container
(Each of the following will be awarded between 1 and 10 points)
  • Variety of plants
  • Most original container
  • Free of weeds
  • Overall impression
3. Best Hanging Basket or Window Box
(Each of the following will be awarded between 1 and 10 points)
  • First impression, visual impact, proportion and balance
  • Choice of container, creativity, visual appeal
  • Combinations of colour and texture, flowers and foliage
  • Grooming, dead-heading, free of debris and clutter
4. Best Under-16 Years Old’s Garden
(Each of the following will be awarded between 1 and 10 points)
  • Must be under 16
  • An area of up to 1 square metre in the ground or a container
  • Variety of plants
  • Good maintenance
Competition rules and judging
  • The competition is open to residents within Tillicoultry, Coalsnaughton and Devonside.
  • The competition is open to amateur home gardeners only.  Entries must be planted and maintained by the home gardener entering.
  • Home gardeners may enter one category only.
  • There is no need to be at home during the judging, but the categories to be judged must be easily accessible.
  • A prize will be awarded to the winning garden and a runner-up in each category.
  • Entrants grant permission for photographs of their entries to be used by us on our social media pages for promotional purposes of the competition.
The decision of the judges is final – no correspondence will be entered into.
